If you are getting the 'Windows cannot connect to the printer' error on your windows machine, then you need to take some decisive steps to resolve small issues.
Normally, windows automatically connect the printer as soon as you connect it via USB or Network. But you can try these troubleshoot solutions to fix the issue.
You can check the printer's compatibility if that particular model is compatible with your version of windows. Open the Devices and Printers and then check if there is a printer listed under the unspecified section or not.
You should check for updates on Windows and make sure you are using your computer's latest windows. Most of the printers are compatible with the latest windows version.
You can also try to restart the spooler service as it can fix the connection error with the printer with ease. Open the Run window and then type services.msc and then hit enter. Now search for Print Spooler from the list and then open its properties. Now click on the Stop button and then open the %WINDIR%system32spoolprinters directory and delete all the contents of that folder. Then you again need to open the Spooler service and set the startup type to Automatic and click on Apply and then OK button to proceed.
This could also be due to the driver error on the system. So, you should update the driver as soon as possible. Open the Device Manager and then expand the Print queues option and right-click on the printer and select the Update Driver option. Then, you need to select the first option, and the wizard will search the internet for better drivers. You can also do this manually by downloading the drivers from the official HP website and then installing it manually.
